
Humidity drives the schedule here, not temperature
In most of North America, the seasonal argument for epoxy is about cold: crews wait for warmth because low temperatures stall the cure. South Florida has the opposite problem. Daytime temperatures sit inside the workable range almost every day of the year — what moves is the moisture in the air.
Epoxy is a two-part thermoset. The reaction between resin and hardener is governed by temperature, relative humidity and dew point together. When the slab surface sits within about 5 °F of the dew point, moisture condenses on the surface as the coating goes down. The result is amine blush, hazing, soft spots and compromised bond — problems that often don't show until months later, when the topcoat starts lifting.
During the wet season, from roughly May through October, ambient relative humidity across Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach regularly holds above 80 %. From November through April it drops substantially, and the working window widens.
What the dry season buys a facility manager
Predictable recoat windows. Lower humidity means the recoat window between coats behaves the way the data sheet says it will. Fewer surprises means a tighter schedule you can actually plan a shutdown around.
Fewer weather delays. Afternoon storms and lightning holds are a daily fact of the wet season for any work involving open bay doors or exterior slabs. In the dry season they largely disappear.
Less equipment on site. Wet-season installations often need dehumidification and air movement to hold conditions in range. That's setup time, floor space and cost that a dry-season install doesn't carry.
Shorter closures. A faster, more predictable cure means fewer days with the space out of service — the number that actually matters for a warehouse, showroom or automotive bay.
If you can't wait for November
We install year-round, because most facilities can't schedule around the weather. What changes is the specification, not the standard.
Polyaspartic and polyurea topcoats cure within a wider humidity range than standard epoxy and reach return-to-service faster, which is why they carry most of our wet-season commercial work.
Conditions get measured, not estimated. Slab temperature, ambient RH and dew point are checked before each coat goes down. If the surface is too close to dew point, we hold or we dehumidify — we don't coat and hope.
The slab gets tested first. Moisture vapor emission is measured to ASTM F1869 or in-slab relative humidity to ASTM F2170. A slab above the manufacturer's limit gets a moisture mitigation membrane before anything decorative goes down, in any season.
